 Programs supporting Long-term Care

Long-term Care offers a variety of engaging programs and activities to enrich residents’ daily lives, with support from the Devon General Hospital Foundation. The Foundation helps fund games, memory-based programs, and arts and crafts, including seasonal and holiday-themed projects.

Residents also enjoy pet therapy visits, live music from local bands, performances by school children, and special interactive experiences such as petting zoos and animal demonstrations.

The Christmas season is the largest celebration of the year, with gifts for every resident, a festive tea party for residents and families, and holiday decorations, all supported by the Foundation. Additional celebrations throughout the year, including Valentine’s Day and Halloween, are also funded to provide themed activities and costumes for residents.

  Programs supporting staff

Staff Appreciation initiatives focus on recognizing the dedication and compassion of the healthcare professionals who care for our community. Through meals on special occasions and meaningful tokens of appreciation throughout the year, we express our gratitude and support for the devoted staff of the Devon General Hospital.

 Programs supporting patients

The hospital gardens and courtyard offer a peaceful outdoor retreat for patients, families and staff. The foundation provides the flowers and volunteers to maintain them throughout the season. These spaces provide opportunities for relaxation and social interaction, contributing to overall well-being and healing.

 Specific projects include

• Family Centre Care Suites –All furnishings, including new electric beds, to equip 3 Family Care Suites in the Hospital.
• Walk in - Wheel in Shower - for the convenience of patients and staff.
• Long Term Care Upgrades - including furnishings & entertainment centre.
• Emergency Room – Furnishings, including IV treatment chairs, Ultra Sound Machine, Training Manikin, Bladder Scanner, Vein Viewer, Trauma Light and Blanket Warmer.
• Nursing Unit – New Tub/Lift, Blanket Warmer
• Bariatric Care Room with Bariatric Bed and Lifts
• Acute Care Room - all new furnishings including new powered beds 
• Meditation Room - includes all furnishings and a new stained glass window
• Foundation Office – A permanent office shared with our Gift Shop upon from which to operate the business of the Foundation

 In addition to the major projects,

the Foundation also provides funds and equipment including: 

• Breast Pump Rentals
• Specially designed Bathtubs
• Telephones and Television in Acute Care Rooms – at no charge
• Equipment for Community Care/Adult Day Program
• Defibrillators for the Community
• Furnishing quiet rooms and the Long Term Care Dining Room
• Enhancing the outdoor Courtyard and Hospital entrance
• Rehabilitation equipment 
• Wall murals in Hospital entrance lobby & hallway with memorials and donator recognition 

 Past Projects

The major project for 2020-21 was revamping the hospital entrance.  New benches, planters & an enlarged sitting area will all provide a renewed, welcoming entrance to the hospital. As well, there will be much less maintenance for our facilities staff. 

A new gazebo was constructed in the hospital courtyard providing a wonderful covered area that is open for  residents, families,  patients and staff.
